Opening of the exhibition Signals of Power. Nauen, Kamina, Windhoek on May 15, 2025

Save the Date!

The exhibition Signals of Power. Nauen, Kamina, Windhoek at the Brandenburg Museum for Future, Present, and History sheds light on the history of wireless telecommunications and its role from the era of German colonialism to the present day. It connects the historic locations of Nauen (Germany), Kamina (Togo), and Windhoek (Namibia), revealing how radio technology was used as an instrument of power.

The large transmitting station in Nauen, Brandenburg—built in 1906 and today the oldest still-operating radio station in the world—takes centre stage. In 1911, the first radio connection to Togo was established from here, followed by a link to Namibia in 1914. While the Nauen station has remained in continuous operation since the construction of the spectacular Muthesius Building in 1920, only ruins remain in Kamina, and in Windhoek, almost no traces are left.

On Thursday, 15 May 2025, at 6 p.m., the Brandenburg Museum will open the exhibition Signals of Power. Nauen, Kamina, Windhoek.
